Over the course of my Ontario book tour, I’ve had lots of people ask me what inspired me to write Swarm.
One part of that answer is simply that I wanted to talk about the eventual disintegration of an economic system that’s come to rely on a cheap and accessible energy source that is shrinking in supply.
I wanted to get people talking about what North America might look like past peak oil and what we can do to get ready.
If you think Swarm does this, please consider nominating it for Canada Reads this year, the theme of which is “one novel that could change Canada.” The deadline is this Sunday, October 20th.
And once I get home and rest up from the whirlwind that’s been my life over the past three weeks, I’ll talk a bit more about all this. Because I do have a lot to say.
Lauren Carter,
You have written a FINE book. I’ve only read 4 chapters and I am HOOKED.
I was scared to read it and you hooked me. Oh that makes me so happy!!
