Coaching & Manuscript Consultation

Do you…

  • Long to write but can’t seem to make the time?
  • Feel anxious because you’re not getting any closer to your creative goals?
  • Bounce from creative idea to creative idea, confused about which to commit to finishing?
  • Become crippled with doubt when approaching your creative space/work?
  • Want accountability to help you focus on your writing?
  • Worry that what you’ve made isn’t any good at all?
  • Feel perplexed at where to go next, now that you have a draft?

I can help…

The longing to write – and to publish – is very real. So are the obstacles we throw in its way. But if you keep avoiding the work, your regret and sense of failure will only grow stronger.

I can help you build a path into your work. Through discussion, practical exercises, reflection, and goal-setting, I will help you move forward in ways that make sense for you, get to know your own intrinsic practice and teach you methods to strengthen your commitment, increase faith in your work, and return to your writing again and again.

Here’s what some of my clients have said

Lauren is a wonderful coach! She was always thoughtful, supportive, insightful and ready with just the right readings and resources. These days, the fact that I’ve committed to keeping my writing time [when faced with childcare challenges], rather than just throwing up my hands and losing steam (as has happened in the past) says a lot about how far I’ve come in the two months I’ve been with her! I really *feel* like a writer who is actively engaged in her practice! I am so excited about what is to come, and I’m so grateful for all she’s done to help me along the way!

I’m writing regularly on my own stuff now. This is something I’ve been wanting to do for 20+ years, but I’ve always had reasons why I couldn’t keep it up: the year-end is due, I have freelance writing deadlines, I have a 10+ item list of admin tasks; I’m a Mom; I’m busy! Lauren, very patiently, supportively, and non-judgmentally, gave me resources that spoke to my situation, put up a mirror to my “crazies”, and encouraged me to kick them down one by one. It was quite a journey and I’m eternally grateful!

I was stuck, and just could not make myself get to my desk and start working again even though I had projects waiting. Lauren's course really kick-started me. I found the connection with the other participants and the conversations triggered by the course material to be enormously helpful and inspiring. I am back at my desk, committed to a regular writing practice again. Thanks, Lauren, this course was exactly what I needed to get working again.

Before I did my blue pencil critique session with Lauren I wasn’t sure if I’d ever finish my novel. My revisions weren’t going well and I had encountered several structural problems I didn’t know how to resolve. After meeting with Lauren I feel excited about it again. She was incredibly insightful and helped me build confidence in my creative process. She provided me with the tools, knowledge and resources I need to restructure my novel. Lauren also helped me create a clear plan I can follow to accomplish my goals without feeling so overwhelmed.

Have you finished the draft of a novel? Congratulations!

I mean it!

This is something lots (LOTS) of people say they want to do but don’t.

So, seriously, crack the champagne, go out for dinner, buy yourself something pretty.

And now… the really hard work begins…

If you’re totally confused as to what comes next in revision and rewriting (the stage when a novel really comes to life), I can help.

When you collaborate with me to bring your novel to the next stage, I will give you:

  • a clear overview of what’s working and what isn’t
  • help navigating the chaos to figure out how to proceed
  • assistance with structure, story arc, and character development
  • suggestions for models to read to help you study from successful works in your genre
  • ongoing instruction to help you hone your craft and better understand the form of your novel
  • resources to assist you in digging deep into the nuts and bolts of the creative writing craft
  • regular support for those days when you feel like you should just flush the whole thing down the toilet (been there!)

Are you ready to skip the regret and start working towards your dreams? I look forward to working with you and helping you get your creative life back on track!
