Me, with artist Dan Dorge’s Muisiriún Illuminé

I’ve been thinking about fun lately.

Seems strange, given the state of the world.

But something has shifted in me (if you’re a regular reader, you’ve probably read that before… insert self-deprecating chuckle here…)

Maybe it’s the result of the last few years, learning over and over again how fragile life is, how short. Or perhaps it’s the move we made to the edge of this incredibly vibrant, engaging city that’s stolen my heart.

Whatever it is….

I’m all about the fun.

Fun with all the art, cultural offerings, great food that’s around: Nuit Blanche, concerts, pho!

Fun with yarn (crochet! Who knew!?).

But mainly, and most important for my heart, my well-being: fun with writing. With this story that’s unspooling from my pen.

That deep pleasure of narrowing in on the exact right metaphor or choice of descriptive word.

Perfect dialogue.

Emotional resonance.

An image blooming in my mind…

It’s amazing what you can create in 20 minutes a day.

Entire pockets of time.

Whole scenes.

One after the next, living on the page.

Building into a first draft…

Fun, Lauren, is even more essential because of the state of the world! ItsI a priority. The world won’t change (at least, not in our lifetime) so get into fun fun fun!

Husband and I are heavily into fun most of the time, only coming out of it when absolutely necessary, such as when negotiating a busy road when driving.

I live with daft as a brush Husband and bonkers son and I love it!

    Ps. Absolutely love the mushroom!
    PPS. Keep writing!

I’ve always felt that crochet is more flexible (and hence more fun!) than knitting. Just sayin’. That crochet playground is wondrous! Great to see you back and having fun.

That’s great, I’m into fun too but not a whole a lot around here. I’ve been to Winnipeg in the summertime. It’s a lovely city. Is your new book launched yet.

Winnipeg is great (even in winter 🙂 ). My next book – the poetry collection – will be out in February. I’ll definitely be blogging about it! The novel comes out next fall. Thanks for asking!
