travel tales from around and about

About Lauren Carter

big-rock_edited.JPGSpecializing in travel writing, I’m a freelance writer who makes my permanent home in the small city of Orillia, Ontario, Canada with my husband, Jason, and our dog, Oliver.

My articles about topics like trekking in Ecuador, searching out authentic tango in Buenos Aires, hiking the Matra Hills in Hungary, paddling Ontario’s French River and discovering Toronto’s West Queen West have appeared in several publications including National Geographic Traveler, Arthur Frommer’s Budget Travel, the Toronto Star, NOW Magazine, the Georgia Straight, Canadian Geographic, Adbusters, Celsias.com, Globorati.com and a whole bunch of other websites, newspapers and magazines. Read some samples on my clippings page and see a more complete list of publication credits on my resume. I’m also a fiction writer and poet, with one collection, Lichen Bright, published.

Originally started as a sort-of diary for my excess thoughts on articles that were in the works, this blog has become a place to talk specifically about interesting areas on earth, trips I’ve taken both in body and mind, travel deals, contemplations, issues in the industry, and both the charms and troubles of the region, province, country, continent (and planet) I call home.

Enjoy, and please leave a comment when you drop by.
